The Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser offers a highly immersive multi-day experience at Walt Disney World Resort. However, the use of the MyMagic infrastructure's MagicBand, with its bright colors and Mickey icon, disrupts the seamless immersion into the Star Wars universe.

Galactic Starcruiser is an immersive multi-day experience where guests spend 3 days and 2 nights in a purpose-built facility designed to simulate a voyage aboard a Star Wars spaceship. It is more than a hotel and group of attractions, it’s a brand new experience entirely.

Goal

Develop a device that replicates the functionality of the MagicBand within the Star Wars universe, seamlessly blending into the immersive experience

Approach

To address this challenge, we collaborated with Garmin, leveraging GarminOS and their hardware expertise as the foundation for our solution.

A variety of functions with the press of a button

Embracing the constraint of a single-button interface, a variety of flows were achieved utilizing environmental and contextual information from sensing technology and guest itineraries.

Results

The outcome of our collaboration is the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser Chronometer, a watch-like device that replicates the core functionality of the MagicBand 2.0 while seamlessly blending into the Star Wars universe. This device features a screen and a single-button interface, expanding its capabilities beyond the traditional MagicBand.
